So with it being KAY Citizenship Week this week, we thought it was a good time to share a little bit about who they are and what they do!
Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a service and leadership organization unique to Kansas. KAY clubs focus on service to a student’s school, their community, nation, and world and work to encourage lifelong participation in service. Clubs also work to develop student leadership skills; students have the opportunity to attend Kansas Leadership Camp (KLC) in the summer as well as conferences throughout the year. Students who participate in KAY during high school are invited to join the Kansas Association for Youth Alumni Network (KAYAN) after they graduate as a way to continue their work with service.
Rose Hill has had a KAY chapter for over 35 years, starting in 1987. Last year alone:
the club completed 20 different service projects, 10 of which benefited the local community, including the following:
-the second grade book buddy program
-a clothing drive to benefit the Rose Hill Clothes Closet
-adopting a local family for the holidays
-packing food boxes at the Open door Food Pantry
-and making dog toys for the Kansas Humane Society.
Together as a club, students completed over 350 service hours.
The club donated over $2,000 to non-profits. This money came from fundraising the club does (hosting Sno-ball, smoothie sales, etc.)
If you have a Middle Schooler, talk to them about joining KAY Club once they're in High School so that they can join in on making a positive impact! 💙
